Glamping 101
What is Glamping?
Glamorous Camping. Imagine experiencing the beauty of the great outdoors by day, but also taking a nice, hot shower before climbing into your soft, warm bed after watching your favorite binge-worthy show on the 32" smart tv while sitting in your leather recliner chair and dining on a Blackstone-grilled meal in a perfect climate-controlled, bug-free environment following a long day spent sipping wine and tube floating down the river near the campground. To quote Max Goof in Disney's A Goofy Movie, "Whoa! Now that's camping!" Whether you choose an RV, cabin, yurt, or luxury tent, the conventional, modern amenities we have come to enjoy, such as hot water, fresh linens, indoor plumbing, television, and air conditioning are what separate a glamper from a camper. Glamping is not less than camping. It is most definitely MORE! And no need to worry, if you ever feel the need to "rough it," you can turn off the AC, roast hot dogs over the campfire, and fend off the mosquitos as you try to sleep on the cold, hard ground in a sleeping bag. But, I bet you'll be glad you have a toilet in the camper when nature calls in the middle of the night. 😉
Getting Started
Once you've decided to give it a go, you'll have questions. What are the essentials for setting up a campsite? Will you need a filter for your fresh water connection? Can your bed linen make or break your night? Do you really need a portable ice maker? These decisions and many other choices will be dependent on the type of glamping you choose. Setting up an RV is a bit different than packing for a stay in a cabin. I don't consider myself an expert, but I've definitely learned a great deal over the years, and I'm willing to share my ever-growing body of knowledge with anyone inclined to consider me a glamping authority. It wouldn't be glamorous without a few luxuries, so chances are you'll be looking for gadgets and gizmos to make your glamping adventure the best it can be. I may or may not be known for purchasing items we can surely camp without, but I can't pass up good glamping gimmick! If it looks cool and promises to enhance my experience, I'm in! Of course, I will share my reviews and make recommendations for those just-can't-glamp-without-these finds, including links to make buying easy. You'll also be able to snag the basic startup supplies, as well as the tried and true necessities. And keep an eye out for occasional replacement part recommendations, such as ceiling vent covers, floor vents, blinds, and the like, because there always seems to be a better mousetrap, so to speak. Last year we replaced our jackknife sofa with a reclining loveseat and it has been a game changer! I'm thinking our next project will be to replace the dining table with a counter-height island and stools, and I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. There is one thing I know for sure: as long as there are entrepreneurs with ideas for new fangled camping products, there will be glampers to buy them up! 😎
